With the coming of
summer, your garage will get hotter. Because of this fact, the room
above your garage will be more difficult to keep cool. Save
energy and money immediately by INSULATING the "Largest Door in your
Home."

Consider
a garage door a wall in
your home. The typical 2-car garage door has a surface area
of
about 110 sq. ft. That's about the size of an outside facing
bedroom wall. The difference is the bedroom wall is
insulated,
but the garage door is not. The bedroom is protected from the
heat and cold. An uninsulated garage door provides very
little protection from the heat of summer or the cold of winter.
If you are experiencing a cold bonus room above your garage, it most
likely because of the garage below. Specifically the garage door.
Because of the lack of insulation, the heat from the rooms around the
garage will be transfered to the colder environment (Thermodynamics
101). The additional energy required to keep the rooms comfortable is
wasted when the garage door is not insulated. In summer, the
opposite effect is felt...wasted energy trying to keep the rooms above
the garage cool.
After we insulate your garage door, you can turn this large room into
something more useful than just storing cars (if you are lucky enough
to park your cars inside). We have found that many clients,
after
our insulation service, are able to use the garage as a: workout room,
workshop, a place to keep pets, and even an alternate place for
children to play. All this is possible
because the garage is now an insulated room. Some clients
have
added heaters to create a gathering room for winter parties.
My Comfy Garage Door
Insulation Service consists of two major components:
- Inspection
of the door frame for cracks, leaks or other opportunities for adverse
air flow. We seal the cracks with high quality caulk and
other
barrier materials.
- The most
important element
is
the application of cut-to-fit insulation sheets to each door panel.
Our insulation material is a lightweight, high efficiency,
comercial grade product that is renowned for its ability to manage heat
(and cold). What you see when the work is done is a renewed
surface consisting of white polyethylene. Behind that "clean"
surface is 99.5% pure aluminum foil that refects 97% of the radiant
heat hitting the door (from both sides). A double layer of
bubble
insulation creates a convention barrier.
Unlike other insulation solutions,
the additional weight of our product does not adversely burden your
garage door springs. For a typical 2-car garage door, the
additional weight is about 6.8 lbs.
Soundproofing from outside noise and a reduction in operational noice
are additional benefits of our service.
In the photo below, the inside of the door shows the finished product.
A "clean" look is a derivative benefit of the material we use.
